An anime noob and an otaku get together to take a look at this fighting game, does it appeal to all or is it solely niche content?

Japan is known for bringing forth many great things, especially for their diverse & colorful manga và anime. The variety of the nội dung that fit under the anime/manga scope are so wide that there is almost guaranteed that there is an anime or manga out there for everyone. That being said, the genre can also be a bit daunting when it comes lớn the sheer quantity of the nội dung of most series out there. Some of the most popular anime out there like Bleach or Naruto have over 300 episodes of content. Black Clover currently has 64 episodes and is still ongoing. For most, enjoying the anime will determine one’s interest in this game. Black clover: Quartet Knights is a 4 on 4 fighting trò chơi based on this series.

Partnership
Due khổng lồ the connection of the Black Clover anime to lớn this game, I was initially very reluctant to đánh giá it. I felt lớn give the trò chơi a fair review that I should watch the anime to see how well the trò chơi embodied the themes of the show. At the same time, I’m at the point in my life where anime isn’t really a place I like to sink my miễn phí time into anymore và I wasn’t sure how many episodes I would have to commit lớn before I could feel I could give a fair reviews of the game. Luckily for me, my brother is quite the otaku (anime fan) and had already watched the entire series. So I’m partnering with him to give our two different perspectives on Black Clover: Quartlet Knights. My perspective will be of an outsider to lớn the fandom, reviewing the trò chơi solely on the merits of the trò chơi itself and my brother Alex, will give his perspective as someone who has watched the show và judging the trò chơi on that appeal.

Going in blind
So at the point of booting up the game, I’ve been told only that the anime is some sort of fighting based series. I have the Steam page telling me this is a 4 on 4 team battle game with a whopping price tag of 49.99 USD. The main page boots up & gives me a handful of options to choose from. The main modes to play with are the story mode, online play và offline training/mock battles. It didn’t take long to lớn determine that online play is completely deserted, playing at 6pm on a weekend night should ensure I match with at least one other person playing on the american vps but it didn’t happen after trying multiple times. The trò chơi eventually pairs you with AI if there are no other players but it basically means that it is a secondary mock battle option.
The mock battle/training mode is decently fun but there are only 3 types of games and they pretty much all feel like a rehash of what you might get in an Overwatch game. They essentially boil down to lớn an escort mission, capture the point and a treasure trò chơi that is sort of lượt thích capture the flag with more steps. The 3d style is nice & I wasn’t originally expecting it when I was told this was an anime trò chơi but unfortunately the magic visuals are out of control. I would not play this trò chơi if you are prone lớn seizures because the lights of the magic go off lượt thích crazy while you are playing và often overwhelm the visual field so you can’t see. Over all the fighting in the trò chơi didn’t showroom a whole lot of value to lớn the game for me. Which leaves only the story mode lớn salvage the price tag.

Mod podge artstyle
So as someone who hasn’t watched the series they did give a brief explanation of the show, but it was very brief. Basically the main character doesn’t have magic but everyone else does. It gets a little puzzling when you start playing & the kid does these hurricane rushes at people that look an awful lot like magic. I asked Alex for clarification & it turns out the character has ‘anti magic’ rather than ‘no magic’. Not the biggest khuyễn mãi giảm giá but it was a small detail they could have explained a bit better. The next thing that puzzled me was the changing artstyle when it came to the story telling. It would rapidly go from an anime sequence khổng lồ a 3D model conversation and then switch into 2 chiều conversations with little animation. The anime portions were so good it was really disappointing when they would switch lớn the 2d style. As an outsider to the anime the story felt pretty shrug worthy. You have a handful of kids và one adult in a dungeon, the adult gets separated & turns into a kid. Not super original, but mildly entertaining.

Second opinion
While I didn’t find the trò chơi had much value, I was hoping Alex would find differently. His opinion of the Black Clover anime series was that it was a bit generic for his liking but that they did have good fight sequences. In terms of the game play he had the same complaints I did about the overwhelming visuals. Some of the characters were noticeably nerfed khổng lồ have them fit into the trò chơi such as Yami, Licht, Fana và Vetto, which felt a bit weird while playing . In terms of the story mode he did confirm that the anime sequences in the trò chơi were all original content. He appreciated that the voice acting was good and that the characters all seemed true to lớn the original. He found the story was very linear, lượt thích watching the show. It might have added value to the trò chơi if there had been any opportunity khổng lồ make choices within the story mode but all you can vày is participate in the fights after the story is told to you. Over all the story was decent filler content since it wasn’t really connected khổng lồ the main story line of the show but nothing amazing. Alex also gave it a shrug.
Conclusion
Over all its not worth the full retail price. If you aren’t a fan hâm mộ of Black Clover, give this trò chơi a hard pass. There are better games out there. If you are a fan, it does have a bit more appeal but still wait for a sale rather than paying full value because you basically just get it for the story mode which isn’t an incredibly long experience.
